Füllen’s Desktop Plastic Injection Machine MiniMolder Manufactured with Xometry

Füllen, founded in 2023, developed MiniMolder, a compact 220V plastic injection molding system for low-medium volume production. With Xometry's CNC machining and EDM services, they produced components from Aluminum 5754, 6082, and 7075 (bracket caps, mold holders, needle holders, motor bases, push blocks) and molds from 1.2738 tool steel with sandblasting finish. Average delivery time of 12 days enabled rapid iteration.

Enes Bayam Co Founder Füllen

Füllen, founded in 2023 by Enes Bayam and Emre İnanıcı, brought a breath of fresh air to the plastic injection molding industry with MiniMolder. Filling the gap between large machines and desktop prototyping tools, this compact system operates on 220V and is ideal for low-medium volume production needs. Its success lies not only in the design and practicality of the product, but also in the smart production strategy behind it.

Initial Steps and Challenges in the Sourcing Process

As Füllen began producing its initial prototypes, they worked with various suppliers. Although they started with a focus on minimizing costs, they soon discovered that managing the process was far more complex than anticipated. Production delays and difficulties in technical communication quickly became obstacles to their growth.

Co Founder, Füllen

Each new project meant a different supplier, a different engineer and a different process. We had difficulties in communicating and managing quality. Most of our time was spent managing procurement processes.

From Seeking a Solution to a Partnership: Why Xometry?

During this critical phase, their path intersected with Xometry. Initially expecting to utilize only small-scale prototyping services, the team quickly recognized the benefits of the engineering support and extensive manufacturing capacity offered by the platform. As a result, they shifted their entire mold production process to Xometry.

Thanks to Xometry’s Instant Quoting Engine, they could immediately view production costs and delivery times for parts, while directly engaging with engineers to swiftly confirm the manufacturability of their designs. For complex components that required more than just CNC machining, Xometry’s additional centralized production services (for example, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)) and its wide variety of materials and surface finishes provided a significant advantage:

CNC machined components—including bracket caps, mold holders, cap shims, needle holders, motor bases, movable and fixed aluminum blocks, and push blocks—were produced from materials such as Aluminum 5754, 6082, and 7075. The molds were manufactured using 1.2738 tool steel, and sandblasting was chosen as the surface treatment. All parts were delivered on schedule, fully prepared for assembly.

From Prototyping to Mass Manufacturing: The Entire Process on a Single Platform

The Füllen team defines the necessary mold details and communicates only the specifications to Xometry. All coordination, production, and quality control processes are managed by Xometry. This approach ensures that:

  • With an average delivery time of 12 days, project planning remains uninterrupted.
  • Production accuracy is guaranteed through rigorous engineering checks.
  • Quick feedback on topics such as manufacturability, material selection, and surface finishes.

We can get fast feedback from the right contacts on issues such as manufacturability analysis, design suggestions, material and surface alternatives. This is very critical in mould manufacturing. Xometry has always relieved our hands in terms of timing.

What Lies Ahead?

Having successfully collaborated with Xometry on more than six projects so far, Füllen Makine now plans to leverage Xometry’s capabilities for new components in mass production, such as sheet metal forming body parts. In response to customer demand, they are also developing a new, higher-capacity machine, MiniMolder2.

The journey of Füllen Makine demonstrates that a startup spirit can indeed achieve ambitious goals. With their innovative approach and visionary objectives, they are poised to continue making significant strides in the field of plastic injection.

In the past, developing non-standard devices was always complicated by the issue of tolerance matching between externally purchased standard parts and custom-machined components. Xometry's one-stop solution perfectly solved this pain point: they not only handled the complex metal 3D printing and sourcing of components but also delivered a finished product that had undergone precision assembly and adjustment. What we received was a functionally ready component that met our precision requirements. This efficient and worry-free delivery experience is exactly what R&D personnel need.

The lessons we learned go far beyond mechanics. We reflect on three key takeaways: people are the ultimate success factor — both the team and its supporters; divide and conquer: breaking the project into subsystems prevents chaos and enables parallel innovation; and industry partners like Xometry are strategic enablers, not just suppliers.

Our development process begins with extensive brainstorming of potential shapes and sealing methods. 3D printing plays a key role at this stage, allowing us to quickly test different designs before determining the final production materials. Since the final materials are too costly and time-consuming for early prototype stages, we focus on creating small-scale test models in-house, then produce large prototypes through Xometry to ensure convenience and accuracy.

A student team from University of Maribor developed a stainless steel hose clip for the food and beverage industry, targeting wine and beer fermentation vessels. With Xometry's laser cutting service, they produced 1.5mm thick stainless steel sheet parts featuring elongated teardrop-shaped holes that pinch hoses at two points. The 80 × 45 × 170 mm design requires no lubrication, is food-safe, and grips vessel flanges securely without screws.

The transition to electric has been a steep learning curve, but what keeps us moving forward is our ability to adapt and to work closely as a team. Every mistake or setback becomes a lesson that makes us stronger. Even when continuity is difficult, with experienced members graduating and new ones joining, the project itself becomes the bridge, carrying knowledge and experience forward.
