Creating a bike mount for Apple AirTag in under 2 weeks

Xometry is the company that made it the easiest. I talked to a few different companies, and Xometry felt like the best fit for me. A lot of these decisions do come down to who do I want to work with long term, so who do I get the best feeling from and who feels like they understand the product and are excited about it and want to be involved as well.

Normally, it’s difficult to find what you need now that there are so many 3D printing options, material properties or design requirements on a digital manufacturer’s website. That’s why you need good customer support to help you with your order so you don’t end up with badly produced parts because you choose the wrong options. Xometry gave me all the help I needed and I got the exact parts I wanted.

We essentially needed the dog to be able to complete a series of organic motions like run, jump, and gently collapse, as a puppy might into the lap of its owner.

We also had some initial prototypes printed with SLS 3D printing, but they were only used to check the functionality. It was only with the help of Xometry that we found out we could add smoothing and colouring finishes. This meant we could achieve a product that is both functional and looks good.

If not for Xometry, we would have had to invest a lot of time in finding and screening several manufacturing partners. In our case, it was especially helpful to work with a supplier that could fabricate food-grade injection molded parts with intricate design features. Best of all, any issue that came up was diligently handled by our account manager, Nicole Zaluski. I could easily call her to help resolve issues that I would normally have had to resolve myself. Our project with Xometry had some very challenging parts for any molder, and they got it done without requiring us to compromise the design intent. Other rapid tooling shops seem to only accept the very simplest part geometries.

Xometry was able to get that out for me within a couple of days and have it nickel plated so it looked like the real deal. I polished it all up and then did a gold overlay on it.
